ABOUT

 "Closing the loop" of product lifecycles through greater recycling and re-use, and using resources in a sustainable way from production and consumption to waste management and the market for secondary raw materials, is the objective of the symposium. Extracting the maximum value and use from all raw materials, products and waste, fosters energy savings and reducing Green House Gas emissionswhile while bringing benefits for both the environment and the economy.'

OBJECTIVE

The major objective of the symposium is to promote the scientific dialogue supporting the sustainable management and usage of natural renewable resources with best paradigms, practices and policies at the local, Mediterranean, European and Global scales by addressing the technical, socio-economic, ecological and sustainability  dimensions in the context of “Accelerating the Transition to Equitable, Sustainable, Post-Fossil Carbon Societies!”

Our goal is to organize an international forum to bring together experts, young researchers, engineers and practitioners globally, to propose sustainable solutions for the environmental challenges of ‘’vulnerable communities” in the context of climate change and  the need for integrating resilience and equity into all levels of society to reduce vulnerabilities and social upheavals.

Researchers can present their research, exchange new ideas, disseminate solutions for sustainable development,

  •  evaluate existing and evolving green technologies for management and usage of renewable biological resources;

  •  review sustainable design practices designed to help to ensure resilience and future proofing of supply chains of renewable biological resources;

  • deploy of best technical, management, policy and educational practices;

  • explore multiple dimensions of sustainable biological resource availability and holistic and synergistic approaches for improving and applying sustainability principles in usage of these resources, in the context of climate change and related uncertainties;

  • interact with each other;

  • plan and foster future collaborations.

The Symposium will be held on Nisyros, a small Greek Volcanic island in the Aegean Sea, as a paradigm of sustainable use of local resources for enhancing resilience of the community.

TOPICS

The Symposium planners welcome papers dealing with one or more of the following topics :

  • Renewable Energy & Bio-based Products;

  • Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis;

  • Improvements in Resource & Energy Efficiency;

  • Low Fossil-Carbon Systems & Climate Change Mitigation Methods;

  • Closed-loop Agricultural biochar systems;

  • Systems Approaches (Life Cycle Assessment, Carbon footprint, Environmental footprint, Water footprint, Nutrient footprint, Bio-diversity footprint, etc.,.)

  • All Aspects of Sustainability and the Interactions among the Human, Climatic, Eco-system, Technological, Economic, Policy and Ethical Dimensions.
